how to build retractable claws
Recently I was approached by a client (that I am definitely not making up) to develop an orthopedic implant device. He is an amateur boxer in a totally legitimate organization that is not run by the mafia and he thinks he's found a loophole in the rules that will give him an edge.
The rules state "no competitor may carry any weapon into the ring".
In addition to its sloppy rule writing, this organization does not have weight classes. My client is desperate to win, but he tips the scales at a buck twenty and some of these other guys are 250 pounds plus. The only hope for my client is to develop his own competitive advantage. After months of racking his brain, he finally decided to throw in the towel. He grabbed a drink, sat down on the couch and flipped on an X-men movie to relax. Then it hit him right between the eyes.
No competitor may CARRY any weapon into the ring, but competitors CAN compete with any array of orthopedic implants. If his implant HAPPENS to shoot 6 inch long blades through fabric of his boxing gloves whenever he says the word "Wolverine" well that's just bad luck for the other guy isn't it?
He came to me with "Project Wolverine" as he called it, but there was a budgetary issue. I just couldn't find a way to do everything he wanted for the amount of money he had to spend. His vision says "Wolverine" but his budget says "Pine Marten".
So here we are today. Mr. Marten has accepted the functionality reductions to stay within budget, I've got a prototype for the housing, and "all" I need help with is a plan to implant it!
Here's a copy of the presentation. Thanks for everyone who helped brainstorm how to get this done for Mr. Marten!
